Becoming One – Genesis 2.18-25

This morning I looked at the story of God creating Adam, and then creating Eve not out of nothing but from Adam. So essentially in the story of Creation only Adam and Eve are created from something already in existence. As we look at God’s creational design for marriage, we see underlying values like a servant-heart, love, forgiveness, and humility. These same values can and should translate to our own Christian faith in the church. Just as we hold marriage to be important, Christ and His relationship to the Church should cause us to value our relationship to the church more strongly.

Because Christ sacrificed everything for His bride, the church, so should we expect husbands to sacrifice for their families to set a Christ-like example. Likewise, because of Christ’s relationship to the church, we should do our part to strengthen, grow, and serve the church as a partner with Christ in the Kingdom of God.

Your thoughts?

Creation (Again) Genesis 2.4-15

Hey, friends, sorry for being delayed on this, I’ve been under the weather for the past 24 hours.  Anyway, yesterday I looked at the 2nd story of Creation and wanted to challenge us in a couple of ways.  First, that we are created to be at work serving God and His kingdom.  Second, as we read about the Corinthian church Paul reminds us that we are all called to serve, but ultimately the glory and credit go to God and Him alone.  Your thoughts?

Scriptures referenced:

  • Genesis 2.4-15
  • Deuteronomy 5.10, 1 Samuel 7.1, Jeremiah 31.10 (use of the Hebrew word for keep, watch, guard, take care of)
  • 1 Corinthians 3.5-9
  • John 7.38, 2 Peter 3.18

See you soon!

Blessings

“Rest and Reset” – Genesis 2.1-3

On the7th day, God rested from all that He had done.  He took time to sit back and enjoy His perfect, unbroken Creation.  It was complete, finished, whole.  Unfortunately, through our sin, this Creation was broken.  Through our worship and through a relationship with Jesus Christ, we are asked and given a way to redeem our relationship with God and restore it to its original intent.

So for you…what would you do to restore broken relationships in your life?  In light of what God has done to restore His relationship with you, what are you doing on your part to move closer to Him?  In the busyness of life and everything else that you know (or think) is so important, do not lose sight of what is most important, and that is your relationship with God through a saving and redeeming knowledge of Jesus Christ.  In this, we are closer to restoring Creation to what God intended it to be.  What are you (and we) doing to make Creation whole again?

Scriptures Referenced:

  • Genesis 2.1-3
  • Exodus 40.33
  • John 19.30

“Image” Genesis 1.24-31

What does it mean that we are created in God’s image? What does it mean that all the fullness of God dwelled in Jesus Christ?  What does it mean for us that our sin damaged God’s image in Adam/Eve, and now that our sin damages the image of God and the body of Christ today?

Scriptures referenced:

  • Genesis 1.24-31
  • Colossians 1.15-20
  • 2 Corinthians 4.4
  • Colossians 3.1-14
  • Romans 12.4-5
  • 1 Corinthians 12.12, 27
  • Ephesians 5.30
  • Ephesians 4.11-13

Your thoughts?  What did you here?  How did God speak to you during this examination of His Word?  Share your thoughts with each other!

Genesis 1.6-23 – “Good”

My sermon today was a challenge for us to not be so judgmental and to realize that while we should strive for perfection in our own lives (Matthew 5.48), we should not expect it from others.  God looked out over His creation and saw that it was “good.”  How are we doing seeing the “good” in others?  Your thoughts?
