At the heart of our Baptist heritage and faith is our commitment to being on mission both locally and globally.  Our desire is to be the hands and heart of God in sharing the love of Christ to our neighbors.  Our missions ministry can be seen in motion at several levels:

• Local Missions – What we are all about, whether as an outlet of our Missions Committee, or through our individual efforts.  Our goal is that every member would be on mission for God!  Some of our current missions efforts include:
• Food for Friends – a monthly meal prepared and delivered by our folks to our neighbors
• Firewood – cut and delivered!
• Odd jobs – this has included a new roof, new siding on a home, skirting around a trailer, and more!
  

• Mission Trips - we have been blessed to be able to take the Gospel to several places over the past few years.  These have included:
  • New York City (Brooklyn)
  • Cleveland, TN
  • Jonesville/Darbyville, VA
  • Norfolk, VA
  • Charleston, WV (West Charleston Baptist Church)
  • Leogane, Haiti (New Missions)
  • Baltimore, MD (Patterson Park Baptist Church and Open Door Baltimore)

• Mission Partners – Big Island Baptist Church has a variety of wonderful partners in ministry and missions, some local and some international.  They are:
  • Strawberry Baptist Association – a fellowship of almost 30+ churches in Bedford County
  • Baptist General Association of Virginia – statewide missions partner, our gifts to the BGAV help support hundreds of ministries
  • Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) – a denomination of 1200 local associations and 41 state conventions and fellowships
  • Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) – a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice.
  • Baptist World Alliance (BWA)- group of more than 200 Baptists whose mission is to network the Baptist family to impact the world for Christ.
  • Each year we participate in the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Baptist Missions, Annie Armstrong NAMB Easter Offering, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Offering for Global Missions
